Yong-Jihn has worked on superconductivity more than 30 years. He identified the superconducting mechanism of MgB2 immediately in 2001, just after the discovery of superconductivity in MgB2, by inventing Testardi correlation. He also invented the world's best technology for improving the high field properties of MgB2, enabling next generation cryogen-free MgB2-magnet based 1.5T and 3.0T MRI.

On September 28, 2023, he discovered Room Temperature Ambient Pressure Superconductor, named CES-2023 for the first time in the world. He got BS, MS, and Ph. D. from Seoul National University and did postdoctoral research at Harvard and Purdue.
